Our Children Must Be Taught the Value of Money….how many times did we hear our parents tell us how hard they had worked to produce the money that we so quickly spent on our own behalf?.

Perhaps, a few of us had exceptional parents that recognized a “teaching moment” when it came along, and then took the time to educate us with examples that would have meaning for us.

Unfortunately, this scenario is the exception and not the rule, and, to make matters worse, our educational system rarely devotes any time to teaching the basics of money.

For a country that boasts about being the world’s number one economy, this “oversight” in preparing our offspring for the financial aspects of life seems hard to believe. Yes, we were given an allowance at some point, more than likely tied to a list of chores. Our Grandmothers may have given us a small savings account to teach the value of putting money aside and having it grow with interest. In most cases, however, these lessons did not stick, or we had to suffer from “Buyer’s Remorse” or a loss of money to suddenly get the picture.

It was none other than Helen Keller that once remarked, “Life is a succession of lessons which must be lived to be understood.” The wisdom of this remark should tell us that we must get our children involved directly in learning the value of money, the earlier – the better. There is a wealth of material on the Internet that addresses this crucial subject matter, but your “curriculum”, depending on the age level of your child, should attempt to cover the following four basic money topics to some degree:

1)	Earning money: Performing a task by devoting personal time and effort at a responsible level before payment is given.

2)	Saving money: Putting money aside for a rainy day to earn interest, and then deciding what priorities will warrant a withdrawal. Depending on age, principles of investing logically follow once a material savings balance arises.

3)	Spending money: After earning and saving, spending it will soon follow. One must appreciate the value of a dollar, what it can buy, and knowing the difference between necessities and luxuries.

4)	Borrowing money: Lastly, we must instruct our child on the advantages and disadvantages of debt. The borrowing part is easy, but the paying it back is the hard part. The importance of credit ratings may be deferred until your kids are much older, but even college students need debt help and assistance.

Studies have shown that only one in ten high school students claim to have learned anything about money management in school. The reality is that these lessons must be taught in a family atmosphere. Expecting our school system to shoulder the load is ill advised. The responsibility starts and ends with parental guidance.

In today’s “entitlement age”, just giving your child an allowance does not foster a learning experience. Experts advise that some form of work must be associated with the stipend. Whether it is chores at home or earning money from babysitting or mowing lawns outside of the household, it is essential to link personal effort with the receipt of the money.

Teaching the value of money received, however, requires another “twist”. Many counselors suggest that allowances should be set to cover a list of expenses that your child is responsible for and cannot purchase without his own funds. Over time, your child will have to make decisions on his own, with your guidance, to understand this lesson “as it is lived”, per Ms. Keller’s advice. Teaching moments will abound.

Children have no sense of cost or what prices mean. Teenagers may understand prices, but not value. Your kids need to learn the difference between “needs, wants, and wishes”, how to plan for each, and how to prioritize spending plans. Encourage savings, while tempering spending habits that are budget oriented.

As soon as children can count, they should be introduced to money, and over time, instructed on the four basics above, including debt help before it is needed. Home is the best environment for these lessons, where real family time will pay dividends down the road.

Ask any breastfeeding mother and she will let you know that although breastfeeding gets easier over time, it does not start out that way. Breastfeeding mothers have to work with the infant to develop the breastfeeding relationship, establish the proper latch and learn the cues of the infant in order to establish the breastfeeding relationship.

Learning the keys for breastfeeding success can be helpful for new mothers that are trying to establish this relationship. The keys for breastfeeding success include:

Skin to Skin Contact

The mother and baby should be allowed skin to skin contact as soon as possible after the birth. Mothers can take this time to encourage breastfeeding and enable the infant to naturally find their latch, as well as develop the relationship between the mother and child. Multiple studies have shown that immediate skin to skin contact after birth promoted the healthiest and longer term breastfeeding relationships.

Avoid Nipple Confusion

At least for the first few weeks of the birth; mothers should avoid using bottles unless they are specifically designed to mimic the appearance and function of the breast. Traditional bottles require the infants to suck differently, as well as sucking less aggressively and can therefore cause the infant to become lazy when it comes to latching on to the breast to nurse. Breastfeeding mothers should well establish the latch before introducing bottles to the infant.

Ask for Help

There are times when breastfeeding isn’t easy. Rather than completing courses of trial and error, there are many resources that are available to new mothers that can provide the mother with assistance from lactation consultants, health nurses and other experts that can help to determine problems with the latch of the infant, issues that could be causing pain and tips to have a successful breastfeeding relationship.

Daddy-Time

Breastfeeding mothers are often singled out as having a tighter relationship with the infant but where does Dad come into play? To create success through the relationships, mothers should find something special that Dad can share with the infant to create this special one on one time with the infant, and therefore improve the relationship between the mother and child as well. Many parents choose bath time as the perfect time for bonding, as there is optimal skin to skin contact and a chance to bond with the infant.

Learn the Cues of the Infant

Mothers will often learn the cues of the infant while breastfeeding to determine when the infant is hungry, when the infant is finished breastfeeding and when the infant is suffering from gas and other ailments. Though it can take time and attention to learn these cues, mothers that take the time to learn these cues can ease stress and respond to the infant faster when required, reducing the fussiness.

Though rice cereal has been an acceptable first food for infants for close to a century, more and more experts have determined that the cereal is nothing more than filler and there are other adequate foods that are suitable for the first tastes of food and introduction to solid food. Looking at the ingredients that are present in the rice cereal, there are often fillers and other ingredients that are less than healthy for the infant – and considered to be bulk food without the nutrients that come with real food.

Alternatives to rice cereal can provide a healthy choice for infants and increase the tastes that develop, leading to healthy eating habits for the child in the future.

Here are some of the healthy alternatives to rice cereal for infants:

Oatmeal

Choosing oatmeal that has been created from whole grains can be a great first food. Oatmeal can be combined with fruit to create a healthy and balanced breakfast for the infant while introducing whole grains that are not found in traditional white rice cereal. Infant oatmeal can be prepared similarly to rice cereal and can be a great option for parents introducing the infant to solid food.

Avocado

Avocado is a great option for those first introductions to solid food. The popular first food can be easily prepared with a simple fork and doesn’t require pureeing like other food. Avocados are filled with Omega and Vitamins, providing a great alternative to rice cereal and creating the building blocks for healthy eating decisions that are made in the future.

Sweet Potato

Sweet potato is a mild choice for parents that are seeking an alternative to rice cereal. It can be easily combined with whole grains, or even brown rice that has been pureed to create a healthier option than the traditional white rice cereal that is created from a box, and can provide a healthy dose of vitamins from each serving that is given to the infant. Sweet potatoes should be cooked, and can be pureed or mashed and can be easily frozen for easy portion serving.

Experimenting with those first foods for baby can be a great way to find the foods the infant enjoys and create healthy eating habits for life. Using foods that contain flavor and texture can be a great way to introduce foods that the infant is going to enjoy throughout their childhood and lead to the infant developing a taste for other healthy foods.

If you decide to use herbal medications for your children you should check with your child’s physician before doing so. You should also make sure that when you are giving herbal medications to your child that you are watching their reactions to make sure that they are accepting it okay.

Although most herbal medication will not cause any side-effects, some children may have a skin rash, stomach upset, or headache. This type of medication for children can be given in capsules, tablets, and syrups so make sure that you choose the one that your child prefers and is easiest for them to swallow.

When it comes to herbal medications, there are dosages for different age groups.

Infants up to two years of age – normally in this age group it is two to three drops of tincture, or syrup that is mixed in a fourth of a cup of water. You can also use three teaspoons of tea.

Two to six years old – in this age group you would give 6 to 10 drops of tincture, or syrup that is mixed in the same portion of water or tea for infants to two years old.

Six to twelve years old – in this age group you would give one capsule or tablet or 10-12 drops of tincture or syrup mixed in a fourth cup of water or 3 teaspoons of tea.

Twelve years of age to adult – in this age group you would give two capsules or tablets or a cup of water with 20-30 drops of tincture or syrup added.

Echinacea is a great herb to help boost their immune system to make it stronger, help with sore throats, coughs, fevers, headaches, and colds. It can help to lessen the duration of the cold. Orange grape is good to help with ear infections in children. There is an herb called Astragalus that helps to fight off viruses, but only use if the child is not running a fever as it could cause a fever to last longer.

To help a child with bouts of vomiting or nausea give them ginger tea, but because it has a strong taste you might want to consider mixing it with orange or apple juice before you give it to your child. If your child has constipation you can mix orange juice and flaxseed tea because flaxseed is a natural remedy to use for constipation. It can be mixed with other juices if your child does not care for orange juice.

Cloth diapers can be easily purchased in one-size styles that will suit the infant from the time they are born to the time when the toddler is ready to be potty trained – and can be purchased for under five hundred dollars for all of the diapers, inserts and supplies that are required.

Compared with the cost of nearly $2,500 to diaper a child with the cost of disposable diapers, cloth diapers can be an effective way to reduce the cost of diapering the child and the price can be reduced even further using coupon codes and shopping for sales and promotions online.

Where can you find diaper deals and coupon codes online for cloth diapers?

Email Lists

Find a few cloth diaper websites that have great sales on the diapers that are available. Using the email list for the website, parents are able to sign up and be the first to know about the sales and promotions that are taking place on the website. Often, the promotions are for items that are considered to be low in stock, so being the first to know can allow the parent to shop while the selection is still available.

Coupon Code Directories

Using websites like Retailmenot.com, parents are able to enter the website or the store address that they are considering buying from to determine whether there are any current coupon codes that are available for that website. It’s a quick and easy way to find the latest offers that are submitted by customers just you like you while shopping.

Saving 75% on Baby Formula Using Coupons

Formula can be an expensive part of parenting and infant. For mothers that are unable to breastfeed or that have chosen to use formula, it can be quite costly at upwards of twenty dollars for each can of formula purchased. Parents buying multiple cans each month really find that it takes a bite out of the baby budget – and are therefore welcoming when it comes to ways to save on the cost of formula.

Parents are often shocked to learn that the infant formula that they have been paying full price for can easily have the prices slashed in half, or even more, using coupons and sales while shopping for infant formula.

What can parents do to save up to seventy-five percent off of the cost of infant formula? Parents looking for a way to save on infant formula can use coupons. Coupons are available for upwards of ten dollars to be applied to the cost of formula, reducing the price in half for most leading brands.

Signing up for the mailing lists from the popular formula companies can get the parent coupons, sent on a regular basis, helping the parent to save big on infant formula.

Not only can coupons be used for the full price cans of formula, but parents can also use coupons on the sale price in store. Comparing the prices and choosing the lowest sale price can allow the parent to save big while shopping. Prices can be compared using the traditional sales flyers that are delivered to the home or flyers that can be viewed online.

To save even more on the cost of infant formula, parents can shop around and find stores that are offering clearance deals on formula products. These products are often discounted at least sixty percent when they are considered to be short-dated, or expiring in 2-3 months.

In addition to the lowered prices, parents can use the high value coupons towards the cost of the formula at the reduced price, saving an average of 75% off of the infant formula using this method.

Diapers are one of the biggest expenses for parents of infants and toddlers. Finding the best prices, using coupons and comparing sales to find the lowest price per diaper can help parents to reduce the price of diapering a child from an average of $2,500 to under $1,000 for the cost of the diapers that are used from the time the infant is born until the time the child is potty trained.

Using coupons, parents can save on the cost of diapers, but where can parents find diaper coupons? Diaper coupons can be found through popular newspaper inserts full of coupons found in the Sunday newspaper. Diaper coupons are also delivered through the mail from mailing lists available through Pampers, Huggies and Seventh Generation.

The coupons from these mailing lists are often valuable coupons that range between $2 – $4 off of various sizes and packages of diapers. The last place that coupons can be found is through the popular printable coupon websites, allowing the customer to print the coupons at home and save while shopping.

When it comes down to it, how much should parents pay for diapers using coupons? Using coupons, parents should not consider the price of the package or box of diapers but parents should consider the price per diaper.

Paying for diapers, parents should pay $.10 per diaper as a stock up price, and under $.15/diaper as a regular price for sales and promotions that can be combined with coupons in-store. Using coupons, customers are able to reduce the price of diapers to under $.15/diaper, compared with the upwards of $.20/diaper without coupons and other sales that are available in-store.

Be sure to calculate the price per diaper the next time that you head to the supermarket or large retail store to pick up a box of diapers – the largest box of diapers on sale is not always the best bargain!

Disciplining toddlers is one of the biggest hurdles when it comes to the ‘terrible twos’. At this age, children are testing the boundaries and parents are searching for ways to create gentle discipline to encourage listening and structure through the development.

Four of the keys to toddler discipline that can improve the relationship between the parent and child include:

Never Repeat Yourself

Parents that are searching for ways to improve the behavior of infants should enforce the rules of the home and structure, without repeating themselves. Parents should avoid repeating themselves to enable the child to behave and react to what the parent is saying, the first time that the child hears it. Parents often find it difficult to encourage the child to behave without repeating themselves, firm but gentle tones can be used to enforce house rules without having to repeat themselves.

Get on the Level of the Child

Shouting at the child to behave from four feet above them is an ineffective way to encourage the child to follow instructions. Parents should ensure that instructions are given at the level of the child to ensure that the toddler is going to absorb the information and comprehend the instructions that are being given. Getting on the level of the child is one of the most effective ways to enforce discipline in the child – but enforce it gently.

Don’t Ask Questions, Give Instructions

Many parents make the mistake of asking the child questions in the place of giving instructions to the child. Parents should avoid placing questioning tones at the end of statements, or asking whether something is ‘okay’. Making sure that the parent is using statements while addressing the child is the most effective way to ensure that the child is going to follow instructions, and follow the instructions the first time.

Don’t Yell

Getting into a shouting match with a toddler is an ineffective way to communicate. In most cases, the toddler that is being shouted at is going to become scared of the adult, begin to shout back and begin a screaming match or become withdrawn. Parents that find that they are losing patience and resulting to shouting should take a moment and consider what is causing the parent to lose their patience, and reduce the stress in the environment to reduce the amount of time spent shouting at the child.

As an alternative, get down to the level of the child and give clear and short instructions. This is an effective way to communicate – while providing gentle discipline to the infant.

Cloth diapering often sounds like a great alternative to using disposable diapers, that can cost an average of $2,500 until the child is toilet trained, but the initial investment required to cloth diaper the child often causes parents to wonder whether cloth diapering is truly the best option for their family.

What families don’t know is that the cloth diapers can be purchased on a budget, reducing the cost of diapering the child.

Here are some of the ways that the cloth diapers can be purchased on a budget:

Buy Inexpensive All in One Diapers

Buying inexpensive all in one diapers can be a great way to save. These diapers are going to be adjustable to allow the parent to adjust the snaps and sizes to accommodate infant sizes, and used all the way until the infant becomes a toddler. Using the all in one pocket diapers can be a great way to save, and there are brands of diapers like Kawaii diapers and Sunbaby diapers that can be purchased for as little as five dollars per diaper, making it simple to cloth diaper the child in under two hundred dollars!.

Buy Used Diapers

There are many marketplaces through social media networks and mothers groups that can enable the new parents to buy gently used cloth diapers. These gently used diapers are a great alternative to the higher priced brand new diapers and can allow the parent to save up to seventy five percent off of the regular cost of the diapers. Cloth diapers can be used for multiple children and washed hundreds of times while maintaining their quality, making it simple for the parent to choose used cloth diapers for the child.

Buy Diapers Wholesale

Saving money on diapers can be as simple as buying diapers in large volumes. Most companies will offer the customer discount prices for orders that are made of more than twenty diapers, allowing the parent to save while shopping. For larger orders that are required, parents may want to consider using a diaper co-op where multiple people create orders that can be used to meet the minimum requirements and give the customer access to the lower prices available and reserved for wholesale customers.

Using these tips, parents are able to cloth diapering the infant on a budget – allowing the parent to save while shopping for cloth diapers and saving up to eighty percent of the cost of traditional disposable diapers.

If you are thinking about home schooling your children then there may be a lot of questions that you have in mind.

Will your children get the very best education they can get at home rather than in school? Can you provide them with everything they need to learn? Will they get to interact with other children?.

Home schooling your children is not a decision to be made lightly and you must first consider all of the advantages and disadvantages before deciding to make the move from the classroom to your home. Here are some home schooling pros and cons to help you decide:

Home Schooling Pros

1. One advantage of home schooling is that it allows you to spend quality time with your children. You can provide them with your undivided attention, which will make you in a better position to watch how they progress. You will also find it easier to discover which areas or subjects they need more help with.

2. Your children will be able to learn in their own time and at their own pace. When home schooling your children they can move at a slower pace if they are struggling with something. Similarly they can move on faster if they find a particular subject easy without having to wait for other children.

3. Another advantage of home schooling is that your children won’t experience any bullying or peer pressure. Your children won’t feel the pressure of keeping up with other children in their class, and won’t feel pressurized to do things they don’t want to do or aren’t ready for.

4. With schooling at home you can teach with a more hands on approach. Instead of sitting in a classroom learning out of text books, you can take them on more field trips. A trip to the museum, park, or even the supermarket can be educational too.

Home Schooling Cons

1. If you are home schooling your children you will have to spend a lot of time preparing teaching materials and lesson plans. You will have to think more about the child’s education and make sure you give them enough opportunities to learn and grow.

2. Home schooling your children means you will no longer have time for yourself. Your kids will be constantly at home and craving your attention. Even after school hours you might find yourself still working on the following days lesson plans. Some parents can find this suffocating.

3. Children who are home schooled often miss out on the chance to bond with other children their own age. and can miss out on many friendships. You would have to make sure that your children have plenty of opportunities to mix with other people. One way to overcome this is to take them to parks and youth clubs.

Now that you have discovered the pros and cons of home schooling you need to decide whether it really is right for you and your children. Home schooling requires, patience, love and a whole lot of support.
